Nietes gets title shot

ALA Boy Donnie “Ahas” Nietes will now have the chance to join the ranks of stablemates Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista and Z “The Dream” Gorres as he guns for the vacant WBO Asia Pacific Mini-flyweight title on Nov. 24 at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

The 24-year-old Nietes, ranked WBO As-Pac No.1, WBO No.12, RP No.1, Paba No.6, IBF No.15 and OPBF No.5, will pit his mettle against former Indonesian 105-lb. champion Heri Amol.

“We are proud to present to you this card, which is a part of the Stars of the Future series of Solar Sports, featuring our very own Donnie Nietes versus Heri Amol of Indonesia,” said boxing promoter Sammy Gello-ani during the press conference yesterday.

The card, which was originally slated to be held at the Danao City Civic Center on Nov. 26, will also feature rising stars Milan Melendo, Along Denoy and young sensation Joseph Omanz who are pitted against equally skillful opponents.

Good fights

“I am very sure the public would like to watch this card because this is a very good fight. Not only the Nietes fight, but the undercard as well,” Gello-ani said.

Melindo will put his undefeated record aganst Rommel Bongon of Tisajo Stable of Manila, Denoy will test Aljun Salogaol of the Anol Jaca Stable and Omanz fights Rey Las Pi?as of Butuan City.

Nietes holds an 18-1-3, (10 Kos) record, while Amol parades a 14-3-2, (4Kos) card.
