PHILIPPINE super featherweight champion Jimrex Jaca is back in training in Cebu City for his scheduled fight on the undercard of the Grand Finale rubber match between Filipino ring idol Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on Nov. 18.
In a long distance telephone conversation with Viva Sports/Standard Today, Jaca’s manager, Rex “Wakee” Salud, said he would know who the opponent of Jaca is sometime today. The fight will be at the catch-weight of 131 lb.
Salud earlier revealed that after the planned Oct. 21 title fight against featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez was called off, when Jaca had weight problems and also claimed he couldn’t obtain his United States visa despite the fact that Golden Boy Promotions had it ready by Oct. 11, the Filipino stopped training and as a result, weighed 138 lb. But Salud said he was confident Jaca will make the 131-lb limit for the Nov. 18 non-title bout.
Salud cited Jaca’s inability to make the 126-lb limit for the postponed title fight with Marquez, which was re-set for Nov. 25 and a commitment he made to fight on the Top Rank promotion of Pacquiao-Morales that forced him to call off the title fight promoted by Golden Boy, raising questions about the value of a non-title bout as against a title fight in which Jaca was to get a purse of $50,000.
