Here we are, another week of my bag and I want to thank the RSR Readers for another week of great questions. I have to vent a little because this boxing game as much as I love it, I have to say that I am starting to hate it. The politics of boxing is ruining our sport, and unfortunately the ones that suffer are the fighters.
As you guys well know, I won the WBA Super Welterweight World Title on May 6th of this year against Alejandro Garcia. I have been willing and able to fight pretty much since July, and here we are coming into November and still no word from my promoter when my next fight is going to be. To make matters even worse, the WBA is holding me up also with all of their bull@$#$ politics. I came to find out that the WBA is in a legal dispute with Travis Simms, who use to be the WBA Super Welterweight Champion, and in order to appease him and settle out of court, they are making me fight Simms.
Now that is not a problem for me because I love to fight, so lets get it on! But after I fight Simms, and beat him, the WBA is making me fight Joachim Alcine from Canada, who is the WBA number 1 contender. Now isn’t this bull@#$@#? I am the only fighter in the history of boxing that a sanctioning body is making fight two mandatory defenses in order to help them get out of a jam that they put themselves in.
I have heard so much bull@#$@ from the WBA that I know they are lying out of their asses. Now to make matters even worse, I signed a contract to get the Travis Simms fight out the way, which we were scheduled to fight on November 4th and for some reason my promotional team said the fight is going to be pushed back until December. Ok, no problem. An extra month to train, and I will be very happy to get another fight in before the year is out. Guess what? No fight in December, and to make matters even worse, I took less money then my mandatory minimum because I wanted to get the fight over with and now I get a letter from the WBA saying they are ordering a purse bid for sometime this week.
Listen, I have been boxing for 18 years, but this I do not understand. Can somebody explain to me how a promoter gets the contracts back from both fighters, pulls us off of one show and then doesn’t put the fight together for another show, and now we have to go to a purse bid and that’s the reason I took less money in the first place, to avoid a purse bid. Damn, I am going to have to start a soap opera with my boxing career because it seems I have to go through bull@$@#$ every time that I want to fight. I have to end here because I do have to answer some questions. Thanks for letting me vent. Maybe the next story you hear is that I have to start suing people to just let me fight.

Yes, it was cool filming a small part in the Rock’s new movie, but I was not really able to hang out much with the Rock because we all had jobs to do. I met him and he was nice, but it was all business. I say right now the Rock takes Hulk Hogan and Rowdy Piper.

I cannot get a fight with Oscar De La Hoya because he does not want to fight me. I am the WBA World Champion and De La Hoya is the WBC World Champion and there is nothing more that I would love to do then to fight De La Hoya to unify the titles. It seems De La Hoya wants one more fight before he retires and the fighter he is looking to fight is either Felix Trinidad or Floyd Mayweather, JR. I am too much of a risk for De La Hoya and he will not get as much money fighting me as he would those two other guys. As far as your TNT comment I would take that as a joke.

Wow, this is a very good question. I was also a fan of the Pazman, but I do think in our prime we would have put together one hell of a fight. I say with his style and movement he would of given me problems, but my pressure would of have caught up to him in the later rounds. The fight would be declared a draw. I know it looks like I took the easy way, but honestly I do not know any other way to see it.

I like this Sergi Likavish kid but I just think Shannon Briggs has too much power. But if Shannon does not get him early, I think he will tire out like he always does. What are your thoughts? I think Shannon has a better shot of winning then Calvin Brock does against Wlad. Thoughts?

I think you are correct. Shannon’s best shot at winning is in the early rounds. I have to honestly say that I am not 100% convinced that Shannon can win by knockout and that is his only chance of winning. I do not think Shannon can win by decision because of his stamina problems. I would like to see Shannon pull off the upset, but I think Liakhovich will win by decision. I do have to say that if Briggs trains like he has never trained before then his chances improve, but what the hell is taking him so long? I really get irritated with fighters who have so much talent and waste it.

First of all thanks for pumping up my head. I am glad to be back doing the bag also. Yes, I would wear pink gloves to help fight breast cancer. I wouldn’t necessarily say that women’s boxing is dead; we just need the females to start fighting top level competitors, rather then just adding wins to their record. Let’s face it. Women’s boxing is here and it is doing fine, but if they start messing it up like they are doing with the men’s boxing then goodnight Irene or should I say Laila.
Holyfield is still fighting because he wants to still be fighting. I know and you know that he shouldn’t be fighting, but Holyfield seems to still think that he is going o become heavyweight champ again. The man is very stubborn and unfortunately he probably won’t stop boxing until he gets seriously hurt.

I would like to see me mix it up with Margarito also. The fight hasn’t happened and probably won’t happen because Don King, who is my promoter, and Bob Arum, who is Margarito’s promoter, will not make it happen. If an opportunity comes up where King and Arum could make millions of dollar with me fighting Margarito, the fight would have been made yesterday.

Has a Daniel Santos bout in PR ever been considered? I see you are on the www.Fighters-of-Faith.com website. Ben Henderson does a fine work there. A non title bout would be a possibility while you seem to continue to be inactive. I talked with another FOF boxer a week ago, Steve Cunningham who unfortunately has to go to Poland to fight their man for the vacant IBF cruiser title. Something wrong King could not have had him fight in the US. Hope things work out for your next fight.

No, I have never heard of a fight with me and Santos happening in PR. Yes I am a fighter of faith, and Ben Henderson does a great job there. I want to fight and if I was allowed a fight in the meantime to stay busy, I would have fought already. I am not being allowed to fight until the WBA and King along with Simms and Alcine figure out their mess, which sucks for me because that means I cannot make any money to take care of what I want to take care of.

I love you guys over there in the PI too. It is Eric’s job to come in the best shape so he can win, just like it is Pacquiao’s job to do the same. I wouldn’t get worried about when fighters talk about how they are in great shape, that they have hired this great physical trainer to help them out and how they feel stronger then ever. When it comes down to it, they both have to fight, and my money is on Pacquiao.
