When it was announced that music mogul 50 Cent would be launching TMT (The Money Team) Promotions with his good friend Floyd Mayweather Jr., people instantly began speculating about what their new venture would entail.
With the anticipation towards a possible fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao dying down steadily, there were some who hoped that 50 Cent?s involvement in the business side of the sport could help make that fight a reality. It a recent BoxingScene.com piece by Robert Morales, Top Rank promoter Bob Arum shared his thoughts on the matter.
?We did [speak] with Curtis Jackson, 50 Cent, but I assume they?re looking at a fight next year, which we want to do,? Arum stated. ?It shouldn?t be hard to make and so forth. Just get it done.?
But while it may have appeared that Arum personally had touched bases with 50 Cent, he denies ever having dialogue with him.
?I have never spoken to 50 Cent in my life,? Arum told me during Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.?s media day in Las Vegas on Thursday. ?However, I said ?we? have spoken. There are other people on the Pacquiao team who assuredly have talked with 50 Cent. I have never talked with 50 Cent.?
Pacquiao is presently looking at a December return to the ring, against either Timothy Bradley or Juan Manuel Marquez.
Mayweather was recently released from the Clark County Detention Center and likely won?t fight until the end of the year.
It?s been hard to stay optimistic about the sport?s biggest fight ever happening, but maybe come 2013 the conversation will pick up again.
