What’s all the hooha about Manny Pacquiao not being sure if he cares to fight anyone in either November or December?
It’s painfully obvious that fighting either Juan Manuel Marquez or Tim Bradley again makes dollars but does not make sense.
Pacman, to his competitive credit, seems to have a laser like focus on Floyd Mayweather Jr., who also won’t fight until 2013.
There are hints that Floyd is also looking only at Manny.
Isn’t this what the masses have been whining and pining for?
Sure, it’s going to be a lousy fight when they get in the ring but financially it will smash all records.
No matter how sloppy it is, they will sell it a second time.
So I don’t think Mayweather or Pacquiao will fight anyone except each other next year.
Give the (confused) people what they want.
Having said all that, we’ve at least got three exciting autumn fights to look forward to.
Chadwick Dawson, a good fighter if not a charismatic personality, will run second to the more skilled and also more magnetic Andre SOG Ward.
Canelo Alavarez should be entertaining in his Sept. 15 bout against undersized Josesito Lopez but the event is getting steamrolled by the Julio Cesar Chavez-Sergio Martinez middleweight title bout in the same city (Vegas) on the same night.
Weird development emanating from the Martinez camp in Oxnard, California, where the Argentinean’s “Media Day” set for Tuesday was canceled due to vandalism and threats to Sergio’s safety.
Ironic as Martinez in engaged in anti-bullying campaign. Anyone think maybe Martinez went too far with his HBO verbal venom against the son of Mexico’s greatest sporting idol? Some people don’t know the difference between fight hype and real hate speech.

(August 27, 2012) — Threats and an incident of vandalism over the weekend at the Oxnard-based training camp of two-division world champion SERGIO MARTINEZ (49-2-2, 28 KOs), of Argentina,has forced the cancellation of Martinez’s Media Day Workout, scheduled for Tuesday, August 28 in Ventura, Calif. Mart?nez is deep in training for his upcoming challenge of undefeated World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight champion and Son of the Legend, JULIO C?SAR CH?VEZ, JR. (46-0-1, 32 KOs),of M?xico.
“This past weekend Sergio received threats from an unknown source and the car in front of his home was vandalized,” said Lou DiBella, Martinez’s promoter. “Unfortunately, until we have a security team in place, we are going to have to suspend any and all public and media appearances for Sergio, including the upcoming media day scheduled for tomorrow in Oxnard. We apologize for the inconvenience to the media and fans that have planned on attending tomorrow’s event.”
No doubt the whack job issuing the threats won’t come forward and identify himself or themselves.
I hope this offbeat story is not a portent of things to come as boxing revs up in September.
