THE LAWYER of Joanna Rose Bacosa, the rumored girlfriend of Manny Pacquiao with whom she allegedly had a son, said Tuesday he would probably appeal a court ruling dismissing the case his client had filed against the boxer.
“We still have 15 days to file a motion of reconsideration if Bacosa still wants to pursue the case,” said Victor Rodriguez. “She has not been in touch with me since Pacquiao’s fight (with Mexican Oscar Larios in July). She left me three cellular phone numbers but all of them were switched off,” the lawyer added.
Bacosa had charged the boxing hero with violating the law protecting women and children, or Republic Act 9262, over his alleged refusal to provide financial support for their 2-year-old son.
On Monday, the Quezon City prosecutor’s office junked the complaint based on a May 2 resolution by then assistant prosecutor Maria Gracia Casaclang, for lack of probable cause, citing insufficient evidence.
Rodriguez said he was still willing to give Bacosa the benefit of the doubt. “She still has 15 days from yesterday (Monday) to approach me. But if she does not come to me, then I have reason to believe that she has reached a compromise,” he added.
Asked to elaborate, Rodriguez said Bacosa’s decision to cut ties with him might have resulted from an out-of-court settlement with Pacquiao.
He said he respected Casaclang’s resolution but did not “subscribe to it.”
“It seemed there was already a trial and she was already evaluating the evidence. She was talking about paternity, but this was not a paternity suit at all. She did not touch on psychological and economic abuse,” Rodriguez added.
