Less than a week away from his ESPN 2, Friday Night Fights bout against undefeated San Diego, California-based Filipino boxer Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (25-0-1, 13 KOs), Washington D.C. native Ty Barnett (20-2-1, 13 KOs), is oozing with confidence as he winds down his training camp wherein he did a lot of sparring rounds with former world champion Demarcus ?Chop Chop? Corley, and a couple of up-and-coming fighters.
Barnett continued his rants about how unimpressed he is of his opponent this Friday, August 3rd, at the Texas Station Casino in Las Vegas. Barnett told this scribe that he was out to “expose” Gesta, and that the Mandaue City, Cebu native is but another Filipino “Manny Pacquiao wannabe”.
“Imma’ show these guys he?s no Manny Pacquiao; there?s only one Manny Pacquiao. I?m going to expose him,” Barnett told this scribe in a phone interview. ?He?s not impressive to me. He doesn?t impress me at all.? He continued to tell TheTrueChamp.com. ?There are a lot of flaws in his fight game. He does a thousand things wrong and with my experience I will capitalize on every single one of them,? added the 29-yeard-old.
Barnett also belittled claims by Gesta’s camp that they will rely on their speed advantage, and alluded to his height and reach as the main factors that will guide him to victory. ?I don?t think his speed is going to be effective in a fight against me because he?s 5?5, I?m 5?10,” Barnett said, and added, “He?s going to have to get close to me to hit me and I?m going to have a reach advantage.?
Barnett also offered a forecast for how the fight might turn out. “After he feels my punching power, I think he?s going to go in retreat mode the whole fight. I doubt he?ll want to sit there and try to start a war with me. I?m the wrong person he want?s start a war with. That?s a war he won?t win.”
Gesta, however, is not the running type. If Barnett holds true to his promise, then Friday night will surely be an explosive gun fight that may not go the full scheduled 10 rounds.
