CASINO MOGUL & CO-PROMOTER IN TEARS!
Las Vegas, NV-If you’ve been a boxing fan for close to two decades, then you know that Steve Wynn, proprietor of the Wynn hotel, was the man that built the Mirage hotel in the late 1980’s. Wynn, a fight fan and Las Vegas magnate, got soured on boxing when Buster Douglas, then the World heavyweight champion, laid down against Evander Holyfield. You might remember that Wynn paid Douglas around $25 million, this after Team Douglas cut their ties with promoter Don King.
LEONARD-DURAN III WAS ANOTHER WYNN BOMB!
Prior to his losing in excess of $30 million by signing Douglas to an exclusive Mirage contract, Steve Wynn got burned up when the rubber match between “Sugar Ray” Leonard and Roberto Duran, turned out to be a dud! Recently, Wynn has gotten back into boxing with Bob Arum’s Top Rank, having hosted the second Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales fight, as well as their third match of November 18.
WYNN’S ERRANT $139 MILLION PUNCH!
With people like Barbara Walters of ABC TV in the room, Wynn was announcing that he had sold Pablo Picasso’s “Le Reve” (The Dream), for a record $139 million dollars. With his faulty vision well known to the media, (he has no peripheral vision), Wynn is really the visionary who designed much of Las Vegas’ expansion in the past twenty years. While gesturing, Wynn poked a hole in the painting, causing a tear in the canvas.
BIGGER BUMMER THAN BUSTER THE WHALE!
After Douglas flopped, Wynn was depressed by boxing. I’m sure that bummer paled in comparison to yesterday and his punching a hole in a $139 million dollar picture. Disgusted, the 60-ish Wynn uttered, “Oh s*it, look what I’ve done.”
