Fight drama and antics aside, Haye vs. Chisora turned out to be a good thing for heavyweight boxing. Yes, their melee following Vitali Klitschko vs. Chisora was absurd and offensive, but in the end 30,000 fans live and millions worldwide saw something that is rare nowadays; a heavyweight bout that people were talking about.
The 31 year old Haye (26-2, 24 KO?s) came out of retirement and put his dismal showing versus Wladimir Klitschko back in July of 2007 behind him. He showed that he remains in the top tier of today?s heavyweights as he made short work of the 28 year old Dereck Chisora (15-4, 9 KO?s) by way of a 5th round TKO.
So what did the fight do for Haye?s future prospects? Well, he did improve his stock by stopping Chisora; something that Vitali Klitschko, Tyson Fury and Robert Helenius failed to do. Even more impressive was that Haye handled the iron-jawed Chisorsa with ease. So, will this finally get Haye his coveted shot against Vitali? With retirement looming for the elder Klitschko, it?s not looking too overly promising, but we all know that ?Dr. Ironfist? still has some resentment towards Haye and would like to avenge the trash talk that led up to the Wladimir bout.
Regardless, Cheers to David Haye for breathing a little life back into the heavyweight division. It?s good to have him back?.
