I recently spoke with ring legend and former pound for pound king Roy Jones Jr and got his thoughts on a wide array of topics. Jones is coming off of a victory over Polish brawler Pawel Glazewski which took place in Lodz, Poland.
Roy is fighting on. He is taking some heat from both writers and fans about his willingness to continue on in the ring, but the former pound for pound great has his reasons, ” I want to make a run at getting that cruiserweight title. It’s the only title that I haven’t gotten, so I would like to make a run at that.” Jones goes on to say, ” I wouldn’t mind fighting Coyote for an IBO title, then going over to Poland and fighting Wlodarczyk for a unification opportunity.” Time will tell how all of this plays out.
Jones also spoke about Floyd Mayweather Jr. As most boxing fans know, Floyd is currently serving 87 days in a Las Vegas jail. Recently Floyd’s attorneys asked the judge for house arrest because Floyd allegedly was not getting the exercise that an elite level athlete needs. The judge quickly squashed that idea, so Floyd continues the jail cell life.
Roy spoke bout Floyd and what options he may have once he gets out, “Floyd is an elite athlete, so it wont take him long to get right back into fight shape once he gets out. He may go with a Cotto rematch, he certainly has that option. Floyd will be fine. Once he gets out he has a lot of options.”
When I asked Roy about Manny Pacquiao and whether or not he felt Manny got robbed, he replied, ” I don’t think Manny got robbed, I KNOW that he got robbed.” Roy hinted at a possible theory as to why, ” I don’t think making the judges wait for the baskeball game to be over helped him any.” Read into that how you will.
