MANILA, Philippines ? After outpointing Jeffrey Mathebula to unify the WBO and IBF super-bantamweight titles last Sunday, Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire has a myriad of opponents who wants to take a crack at him.
Among those are heavy hitters WBO bantamweight champion Jorge Arce, WBC super bantamweight champion Abner Mares, WBC Emeritus Champion Toshiaki Nishioka and WBA Super Bantamweight Champion Guillermo Rigondeaux, all champions have stated that they want to mix it up with the Filipino champion.
“It?s a future fight. We definitely are willing to fight this guy, we want this fight, and we?re definitely going to study him,? said Abner Mares in an interview with examiner.com.
?He?s (Donaire) always known for being skillful. He knows how to use the ring. But I think I could give him a good fight,? Mares added.
But there are serious issues between their promotional companies as Top Rank and Golden Boy have been on a cold war for a few years now, decreasing the chances of the bout from happening.
Meanwhile, a cocky Guillermo Rigondeaux is taking shots at Donaire, accusing him of ducking.
?He said he wants one more belt in the division. He should come try and take mine, but I bet he will keep ducking me,” stated Rigondeaux in his interview with Tha? Boxing Voice.
Arce though has the upper hand in the negotiations as he and Donaire are under Top Rank. Both fighters are friends outside the ring and have publicly discussed a future fight.
But Donaire has stated publicly that he wants a shot at Japanese superstar Toshiaki Nishioka, with the winner being declared as the WBC Diamond champion according to WBC President Jose Sulaiman.
