Last night on HBO?s airwaves, WBO junior featherweight champion Nonito Donaire added the IBF bauble to his collection with a convincing twelve-round unanimous decision over South Africa?s Jeffrey Mathebula.
Donaire registered a chilling knockdown off of a counter left hook in the fourth round but he wasn?t able to put his resilient foe away, as he instead opted to pick shots down the stretch of the fight, eventually pulling out the victory by scores of 119-108, 118-109, and 117-110. In the televised co-feature, former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik dropped the capable Will Rosinsky in the second round on his way to a unanimous decision victory of his own. Pavlik picked up momentum as the bout went on, gaining confidence along the way, and now sees his record stand at 40-2 with 34 knockouts as he is eyeing bigger fights later in the year. Advertisement
