Rolando Arellano spoke to 8CN this evening and gave us a nice update on the health of his fighter Victor Ortiz. The former champion was hurt much more seriously than anyone originally thought. Arellano tells 8CN that Ortiz broke his jaw in two separate places, and also suffered internal bleeding. The broken jaw ended up cutting some veins in the back of his mouth which created arterial bleeding. The treating physician told Arellano that the bleeding could very well have killed Victor.
Arellano tells 8CN that the healling process will take at least 4 to 6 months. He says that once Ortiz is given the green light, they will exercise the rematch clause and fight Josesito Lopez again. According to Arellano, Ortiz had a titanium plate put into the right side, and three screws put in to fix his jaw. The good news is that the doctor according to Arellano told Ortiz that his jaw will end up being better than ever before.
Ortiz will have to have his jaw wired shut for another week at which time it will be removed, and he will at that time start solid food again. Arellano tells us that Victor is in good spirits, and is eagerly looking at getting back into the ring.
