IF YOU believe every word Juan Manuel Marquez’s trainer says, then Manny Pacquiao is probably headed for a major disaster.
Upon learning that the Filipino featherweight arrived for training in Los Angeles just last week 11 pounds over the 126-lb. limit, Ignacio “Nacho” Beristain said Pacquiao will be in for a surprise when he meets his ward on May 8 at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.
“After (Pacquiao’s) important victory against Marco Antonio Barrera, he’s now the good boy of important television networks, and brimming with optimism,” Beristain, a one-time Manila visitor and arguably Mexico’s leading cornerman, told the boxing webside boxingscene.com.
“But he’ll meet a sad reality when he meets Juan Manuel, who’s technically superior to Barrera offensively and defensively and I’m convinced the result is going to be ever so different.”
Unlike Pacquiao, Marquez, the reigning IBF/WBA featherweight king, has been in the thick of preparations for so long now and “is focused, determined and thirsting for May 8th,” Beristain said.
