The World Boxing Organization’s panel of five judges all scored Timothy Bradley’s upset victory in favor for Manny Pacquiao, it was announced Wednesday.
Despite those differing scores, Bradley will retain the championship belt as the WBO found no wrongdoing in the judging of the welterweight title bout held June 9 in Las Vegas.
On its website, the WBO released the scoring of five judges, from New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico. Each judge had Pacquiao winning the fight, but by different margins.
Pacquiao said today from the Philippines that he would prefer a rematch to Bradley giving up the title because ?people may think I just usurped it.
?My supporters shouldn’t worry. We’re going to get that title,? Pacquiao said.
Bradley’s trainer Joel Diaz, who had told Bradley he won the fight before the judges’ scores were announced, didn’t know what to make of the WBO’s judges’ scoring.
?I don’t know what to say honestly. All the controversy threw me off guard,? Diaz said Wednesday. ?Like I said, we trained for a fight, we went to Las Vegas to fight Manny Pacquiao and we did our job.
?If someone didn’t do their job, it’s not our fault.?
Diaz also pointed out a 15-minute video online at www.ballerstatus.com that used slow motion to take a critical look at how HBO called the fight, and how Pacquiao actually missed on punches the commentators gave him credit for.
Bradley said he had no comment on the WBO scoring released Wednesday.
The first judge in the WBO panel review had Pacquiao winning the fight 115-113. On the night of the fight, official judges Duane Ford and CJ Ross had Bradley winning the fight 115-113 (seven rounds to five), while Jerry Roth scored it 115-113 for Pacquiao.
A second judge in the WBO review scored it 116-112 (eight rounds to four); another scored it 118-110 (10 rounds to two) and two others scored it 117-111 (nine rounds to three).
