When I spoke with Top Rank boss man Bob Arum yesterday afternoon, he as always pulled no punches. I asked him who he planned on matching Manny Pacquiao up with next. Would it be a rematch with Timothy Bradley? Would it be a 4th fight against Juan Manuel Marquez? Who next? Arum being the old crafty fox that he is said, “Brad contrary to what some of these genius writers write, I don’t call the shots when it comes to who Manny fights next. Manny has the final say on who he wants to fight.” OK, so if that’s the case then I respectfully request on behalf of most of planet Earth that Manny calls Bob ASAP and tells him to make the Mayweather fight. It can’t be that easy though, can it?
When I asked Arum when a decision would be made on who Pacquiao fights next, he replied, “Manny is currently in The Philippines helping the flood victims. I haven’t had a chance to talk to him yet, but once he’s finished I will get with him and figure out what were going to do next.” Arum went on to say, “The trouble with making a Bradley Vs. Pacquiao rematch is that the 1st fight was so one sided, it doesn’t make a lot of sense.” A fourth fight Vs. Marquez however is certainly a possibility. Pacquiao has clearly had the most problems with Marquez. Juan Manuel Marquez has certainly earned the right to finally get the W over Pacquiao. So why not give the guy one last shot?
So now it’s just another waiting game. Pacquiao who’s currently back home in The PI helping the flood victims will get with Arum soon enough and we’ll all see what the next chapter will bring.
