Most of the boxing world is still recovering from the butcher job that took place in Las Vegas last Saturday. Pacquiao in front of millions of fans, and thousands of fans in the arena dominated a game Timothy Bradley, yet was robbed of his just victory.
Boxing judge Duane Ford recently appeared on HBO boxing analysis Jim Lampley’s show, “The Fight Game” and tried to explain the preposterous scoring that not only deprived Pacquiao of his victory, but also robbed the fans, and took millions of dollars out of the pockets of those who dropped money on Manny for the win.
Ford would tell Lampley, “What I personally saw that night, is that the first six rounds, clearly Pacquiao was the winner. It was an exciting six rounds.” So I don’t know about you folks, but the last time I was in a math class, they taught that 12 minus 6 equals SIX, no? Ford had the bout scored 7 rounds to 5 for Bradley. I would hope that the so called investigation that is supposed to take place by the Nevada Attorney General’s office sheds some light on this little mathematical snafu.
I watched the replay of the fight this morning. I wanted to see if the masses were all crazy, including me. I scored the fight pretty much the same way I had it the first time. I did give Bradley one more round, moving his total of rounds won on my card to 3 rounds. So after viewing the fight a second time, I had it scored Pacquiao 9 rounds to Bradley’s 3 rounds. A far cry from all three judges.
Hopefully when and if the AG’s office does get this case, they will sit the judges down in front of a TV and have them explain each round and how they came to each score. Judging in this sport recently has taken a nose dive right into the sewer. This fight will go down as one of the worst robbery jobs in many years.
Last night I watched the Tomasz Adamek Vs. Eddie Chambers fight. Boxing judge Alan Rubenstein had that fight scored 119/109 for Adamek, which is just stupid at it’s best. Chambers with one hand fought to at least a draw.
I don’t have all of the answers as to what needs to be done to get more competent judges, but I do know that there needs to be some sort of punishment and or consequences for this type of poor judging.
