There is only one reason Acelino Freitas would step back into the boxing ring. That reason; Manny Pacquiao. After being out of the sport for 5 years, “Popo” Freitas returned earlier this month and defeated fellow Brazilian, Michael Oliveira with a 9th rd KO. Now after his stunning return, Freitas is expressing his desire to face Pacquiao.
Recently speaking to the Portuguese Press, Freitas stated he would not fight again with the exception of a fight against Pacquiao. He had made a promise to his son not to fight again unless it was for the belt.
Speaking in Portuguese (translated into English on ESPN), Freitas spoke out on fighting Pacquiao.
Freitas realizes he has never had knocked out over lefty, “They are hard to knock out, and I never got a KO victory over a left-handed guy,” he stated, adding: “But I know how to fight them, how to behave in front of them and avoid their strikes.”
Freitas went on to add: “With Pacquiao, it’s simple: He never fought a guy that hits and steps back like I do. He is the only reason I’d fight again.”
