On Thursday, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao made his sixth appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live show. [Video] The world’s best boxer made a quick appearance – with no song duet this time around – along with actress Charlize Theron.
Kimmel peppered Pacquiao with questions regarding the boxer’s newfound devotion to Christianity. However, the host’s jokes appeared flat given the Pacman’s sincerity in his beliefs and Kimmel’s (failed) attempt to poke fun at what he might view as ‘ancient mysticism’. Having secured a few nervous laughs, Kimmel then delved into an uncomfortable area: Pacquiao’s recent pronouncements opposing same-sex marriage. The boxer looked uncomfortable given that Los Angeles is home to a sizable LGBT community, and Kimmel deftly switched to Pacquiao’s potential fight with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. By now, this is obviously a drawn out and boring topic. The Mayweather issue seemed to be another flap by Kimmel whose writer and producer probably did not provide adequate preparation for this appearance. Advertisement

Pacquiao showed up on ABC’s set in Hollywood, California just a few minutes away from the Wild Card gym. He’ll face the undefeated Timothy Bradley on June 9th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Kimmel, be more creative next time – you went at the audience with a tired formula. And don’t hate on a man for his religious beliefs. Not everyone in this world cry tears of a clown.
