Juan Marquez ‘100%’ not fighting on July 14th; may wait for Pacquiao clash

For the past few weeks, people have been scratching their heads trying to figure out who the next opponent is going to be for four-division champion and Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez. Having defeated Sergey Fedchenko on April 14th to claim the WBO junior welterweight strap and eyeing a fourth fight with Manny Pacquiao later this year, Marquez was slated in for a July 14th appearance at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

All kinds of names were mentioned as possible foes for Marquez, including Zab Judah, Brandon Rios, Erik Morales, Mike Alvarado, and Mercito Gesta. Now it turns out that everyone may be out of luck as Marquez likely won?t be fighting on that date at all.

As reported by Keith Idec of BoxingScene.com, it appears that Marquez?s inability to decide on a dance partner caused some confusion with Top Rank, who co-promote him, and the move was decided to nix the July 14th show because with the date inching closer there simply wasn?t enough time to promote the pay-per-view show to its fullest capabilities. [Update: Sources close to the situation have informed me that Marquez is ‘100%’ not fighting on July 14th and may sit out until the fall to pursue a fight with Pacquiao. With the turn of events, it looks like Erik Morales may now be heading towards a July 7th date against Amir Khan]
