Upon first glance, it would seem that Manny Pacquiao is all good when it comes to Adam and Eve but completely rejects the coupling of Adam and Steve. (And I don’t refer to Adam Corolla.)… There’s a raging fire roaring through the House of Manny Pacquiao. The headlines across the Internet are screaming and shocking. PACQUIAO SAYS GAY MEN SHOULD BE KILLED. Upon closer examination, it appears that a writer’s own personal views (yes, you fellow Examiner and right winger Granville Ampong) have been poured onto whatever remarks the Pinoy Idol did make in opposition to gay marriage being legalized. But, hey, why let the unvarnished truth get in the way of sensationalism? To those who say homosexuality is an abomination, I say this story, twisted and exagerrated, is the real abomination. Pacquiao’s handlers, starting and ending with 80 year old promoter Bob Arum, need to get busy immediately to clean up this mess. Training feverishly in Los Angeles, with what could be a grueling fight against unbeaten and uncowed Tim Billy Goat Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Pacquiao should–no make that must–issue a carefully written public statement today on as the flames spread further and further. I mean, can you imagine God fearing Tim Tebow making such a dumb proclamation? It will likely turn out that “Pacquiao never said what he never said” but Arum and his henchmen need to go into emergency cleanup mode. Gay men and women buy pay per view TV events also. They buy or reject PPV TV offerings just like homphobes do. I don’t think Pacman has this kind of blind hate in his heart. Beyond the Bradley fight, this can do some lasting damage to his public image. Remember, he is supposed to be a possible future president of the Philippines. Last time I checked, the Pinoy populace is not 100 percent heterosexual. Arum should hire Ninong Hermie Rivera, or as I also call him the Wise Old Pinoy Owl (WOPO), to handle damage control on this story. Rivera was a key aide/adviser to President Marcos, he can smooth out this situation in the homeland while Arum’s minions do the same elsewhere. Finally, what about Hennessy cognac, HP computers and other big companies who have endorsement/branding deals with Pacman? You know this causing serious angst within their corporate walls. Pacquiao may duck and dodge many of Bradley’s blows but this somewhat self-inflicted one? Pacquiao needs to face it today, without delay, and face it head on. Make yourself clear, Manny, because this is a major mess.
