CAN MOTIVATED “YORY BOY” REGAIN STATURE?
A fortnight removed from dispatching Chicago’s Miguel Hernandez (19-4) in front of a partisan Illinois crowd, Ramon “Yory Boy” Campas of Mexico is once again in the news. The 34-year old former champion at 154 lbs., Campas, 88-8 with 72 KO’s, will meet unbeaten Irish prospect John Duddy (17-0, 15 KOs) on September 29th, provided Duddy beats Carlos Bojorquez (28-8-6, 22 KOs) in early August. A KO of Duddy, something that is not so much of a long shot would propel Campas towards a 160 lb. title shot.
JAMAICA A RODNEY DANGERFIELD COUNTRY
One of the “Ring Talk” faithful, Pirate posted the following list purporting to be fighters of Jamaican heritage. All I can say is what a prominent list of pugilists. I’m sure there a couple missing here, but I think that if this list is authentic, and I can’t see why it isn’t, Jamaica needs to be included with some of the other nations that produce many ring greats. Thanks to Pirate for the names and www.BoxRec.com for the numbers.
