The country has a new leighweight champion in Dexter “Dinamita” Delada.
The sweet southpaw from Mambajao, Camiguin, clinched the vacated title after a TKO in the third of last Tuesday’s “Double Trouble in Dapitan“ held at the Gallera in Dawo, Dapitan City.
Chris Saluday, who gave Delada a run for his money in the first round, simply gave up in the third after a flurry that climaxed with a solid right hook and straight combination to the head. Time stopped at 1:49.
In the co-main header, Wendyll Janiola survived a ninth round knockdown to win the vacant PBF Junior Flyweight crown over Philipp Parcon by majority decision.
Two judges scored 97-93 and 95-93 both for Janiola, while the other gave an even 95-95.
Saluday, of Davao City, was the harder puncher, spectators noted in the first round, as he connected uppercuts and hooks that opened a gash above Delada’s left eye.

And with momentum on his side, he then tried to go for the kill on the second.
The tide reversed, however, when a well-timed straight landed on the would-be-shooter, sending him bottom first on the canvass.
Another blow to Saluday’s campaign was the two point deduction for an accidental headbutt that opened cuts above both of Delada’s eyes.
The end came when Saluday tried to mix it up. A cross as sweet as ripe lanzones from Delada’s hometown landed on Saluday’s temple, followed by a straight that sapped all of the Davaoe?o’s strength away.
Delada, who lost his first try for the title last November, improved to 16-3, 11 knockouts (KOs), while Saluday dropped to 18-12-2, 10 KOs.
In the other match, Janiola, the former RP Jr. flyweight champion, improved to 17-5, 8 KOs while Parcon dropped to 16-12-2, 5 KOs.
In the same card, undefeated Gedion Amba of Lapu-Lapu City pulled a TKO win at the 1:23 mark of the second round against Jing Supremo.
Apol Suico (7-0, 5KOs) had a slow start but knocked out Isidro Balabat at the 1:46 mark of the ninth round.
Jonathan Baat. meanwhile, pulled a technical decision win over Peng Peng Tepora, while Joe Galamiton boosted his unanimous decision win by a knockdown over Jonathan Candare.
Jalosjos is now planning to host Delada’s title defense against Dennis Laurente three months from now.
