So how does the multi-division, multi-title winning Philippine Congressman Manny Pacquiao open up his first day of camp for his next fight?
By besting a personal best record, of course.
On Monday, the Pac Man ran from Griffith Park up the Hollywood Hills to the landmark Hollywood sign, coming in at a personal best of 3.5 miles in 22 minutes.
Pacquiao began his run at 6:45 a.m. and later that day he teamed up with trainer Freddie Roach and logged 10 rounds alongside conditioning and bag work.
Planning to face unbeaten Timothy Bradley on June 9th, Pacquiao entered the United States on the day of the Floyd Mayweather/Miguel Cotto fight at the MGM in Las Vegas, where his fight with Bradley will also take place, and gave his thoughts.
?I saw the Mayweather-Cotto fight. It was a good fight and everyone [fans] was happy,? said Pacquiao.
Regarding Mayweather?s supposed plans to retire, Pacquiao stated this:
?I have no opinion on Mayweather?s plans to retire. That?s his decision. A very personal decision.?
As for his own career and upcoming fights, the Pac Man sounds like he is not tiring of the sport that has garnered him worldwide fame and political power.
?I?m glad to be back at Freddie?s gym. I have no plans to retire. I still love what I?m doing.?
?Freddie and I had a good camp in the Philippines and we are ready to work very hard in preparation for Timothy Bradley. Bradley is strong, undefeated and young. I have a great deal of respect for his talents and his accomplishments.?
Scheduled for induction into the Hall of Fame this June, trainer Freddie Roach stated that he and Pacquiao laid down a solid base of training before heading to the States while in the Philippines, and also gave his thoughts on the topic of Mayweather.
?I did not see the Mayweather-Cotto fight but I do know that Floyd?s slippery defense is now better outside the ring than inside the ring. But that is the path he has chosen.?
And just what Roach thinks a fight between his fighter and Mayweather turn out:
?Would Manny beat Floyd? You bet. The way to beat Floyd is to outwork him every minute of every round. Manny is the only fighter capable of executing that game plan. Activity kills Mayweather. You need to stay busy against him and not let him dictate the pace by slowing down the fight. Southpaws are his other weakness. Manny is just a bad combination for Floyd to fight. If it would bring Floyd into the ring, I?d agree to have Manny fight him right handed.?
