PALM SPRINGS ? Four weeks away from the fight of Timothy Bradley’s life, and his trainer Joel Diaz said he couldn’t be happier with how things are going in training camp.
Diaz, who was at The Desert Sun on Tuesday doing an online chat in Spanish for www.mydesert.com, said Bradley has been on point.
Bradley (28-0) will take on fighter of the decade Manny Pacquiao on June 9 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas for a pay-per-view event.
?I’m really happy with how things are going,? Diaz said. ?Tim hasn’t had an off day.?
Diaz said the only thing he’s had to do was try to get Bradley to take more time off on the weekend so he’ll be fresher for workouts.
?He was coming in on Mondays a little sluggish,? Diaz said. ?I finally made him realize that he has to slow down on Saturdays and take Sundays off. He did it last week, and on Monday he looked spectacular.?
In addition to talking about Bradley, Diaz also talked about his weekend in Las Vegas. Diaz was working the corner of Omar Figueroa, who was on the undercard of the Floyd Mayweather-Miguel Cotto fight.
Diaz said afterwards, he took in the main event, a unanimous decision victory for Mayweather.
If Bradley beats Pacquiao, he knows that Mayweather could be in their future.
As for Mayweather’s performance, Diaz was surprised the fight was as close as it was.
?At the end of the day, Mayweather is getting older and the wear and tear is catching up with him,? Diaz said. ?He might not have the wear and tear from the ring, but from the way he trains and his lifestyle.?
Diaz also was asked about the the positive drug test by boxer Lamont Peterson, a fighter Bradley beat in 2009.
Peterson’s failed drug test is jeopardizing a May 19 fight against Amir Khan, in what is a rematch of one of the best fights in 2011.
Diaz wasn’t sure what to think of the positive test.
?Did he use the substance to make himself better? I can’t say he did or didn’t,? Diaz said. ?If you asked me if I believe he did it, I would say no.?
The media blitz for the Bradley-Pacquiao fight will begin this week, when HBO airs the ?Faceoff With Max Kellerman? feature on Saturday during the Mayweather-Cotto replay and regularly between programming.
Later this month, HBO’s Emmy-award winning ?24/7? will premiere leading up to the fight.
