Villanueva to use power in title bid vs. Yordan

HEAVY-handed Lorenzo Villanueva is all geared up for the biggest fight of his career as he wrapped up his Baguio training and flew to Singapore with his team yesterday.

Villanueva ended his 45-day training camp in Baguio City under the watchful eye of Freddie Roach, who is also in the country training pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.

Villanueva left for Singapore with manager Manny Pi?ol as the 26-year-old, regarded as one of the hardest hitters in the Philippines, takes on former world title contender Daud Cino Yordan of Indonesia for the vacant International Boxing Organization featherweight crown this Saturday at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore this Saturday.

Although Villanueva has gone the distance only once in his career?a 10-round unanimous decision win over Jaime Barcelona in 2009?he is prepared for 12 rounds.

Villanueva, 22-0 with 21 knockouts, is looking to capitalize with his punching power to take Yordan away from his rhythm.

?It won?t be an easy fight for Villanueva as he has to take the fight to Yordan to maximize his power,? ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer, Villanueva?s promoter, told Sun.Star Cebu.

Although Villanueva has the slight advantage in power, the 24-year-old Yordan, on the other hand, has the edge in experience.

Yordan, 28-2 with 22 knockouts, is a former Olympian and has fought some of the best in his division including a world title shot against World Boxing Association featherweight champion Chris John.
