Pacquiao continues Ariza-style trainings

NOT even an Alex Ariza departure will hurt Manny Pacquiao?s high altitude training in the Summer Capital.

In fact, the eight time weight division has been holding his own plyometric trainings for the second day since Ariza left to train Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for the US last Saturday.

With Pacquiao preparing for another sparring session, which probably starts today, Thursday, the lawmaker from Sarangani resumed roadwork. He trooped Teachers Camp for several plyometric trainings.

Plyometrics is a type of training designed to produce fast, powerful movements, and improve the functions of the nervous system, generally for the purpose of improving performance in sports used to increase the speed or force of muscular contractions, providing explosiveness for a variety of sport-specific activities.

?Kung ano man yung pagkawala ni Ariza eh mas hihigitan pa naming,? said Pacquiao after his early morning sessions where he was joined by Russian sparmate Ruslan Provalikov. The Plyometric training was introduced by Ariza when he joined Team Pacquiao in 2008 which eventually demolished Mexican David D?az in the lightweight division via ninth-round knockout and won the WBC Lightweight title.

Provalikov, who stands 5?6? will be Pacquiao?s main spar mate until the team leaves for US first week of May.

The 28-year-old light welterweight promised to give the Filipino boxing idol a good fight in their scheduled sparring sessions.

?I?m ready to spar with Manny,? said Provalikov through interpreter Rustom Nugayev.

California-based Francisco Santana was also observed to be seriously preparing for the forthcoming sparring sessions with Pacquiao in the remaining week of his high-altitude training before flying to the United States for further training.

Pacquiao has been holding his training camp here in Baguio City since 2009 when he demolished Miguel Cotto.

The reigning WBO welterweight king is set to defend his crown against undefeated American junior welterweight Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand.
