Manny Pacquiao might be as tough as they come if you step in the ring with him, and after he beats you for 12 rounds or less he will invite you out to celebrate. This is the kindness that Manny Pacquiao has always displayed. Even during press conferences when he has to square up face to face, Manny can’t even keep a straight face, and that’s because of his gentle character. This has always turned out to be a double edged sword for Manny Pacquiao. This is why there are problems arising with the departure of Alex Ariza.
Manny Pacquiao has no problem with Alex Ariza leaving and he already talked to Alex before this whole situation went down. Apparently Freddie Roach and Bob Arum knew nothing about him leaving early to go back and train Julio Chavez Jr. Honestly, it’s not their decision either. Manny puts together who “he” wants in camp. It has always been the fighters responsibilty who he wants training him. Promoters and Trainers might want more of a say so in the matter, but they don’t make the final call.
Why would Manny stop Alex in the first place. Manny understands that this is how Alex Ariza makes his living. Alex doesn’t make millions a year like Pacquiao does. Chavez Jr has had major issues losing weight lately and he needs all the help he can get from Alex Ariza. He offered more money to come to the camp and help him shed the weight the proper way. On top of that, very few people know that Alex Ariza “kinda” co-manages Chavez Jr. along with Bill Keane and Alex will receive a little bit more revenue from the fight itself. So Alex has more ties than just being a Strength and Conditioning Coach. Manny realizes this man has to make a living especially since Pacquiao will be retiring very soon.
Manny because of his gentle and kind heart most of the time cannot say NO to anyone. That is why Michael Koncz was brought into the camp. Koncz main job is not to advise but to say NO to the people that approach Manny for stuff. If it was up to Manny he would give the very shirt off of his back. The problem is he can go broke by trying to help every single person that approaches him. Manny needs Koncz to be his NO man. In this case with Alex Ariza, it’s simple to say Yes, go make your money Alex. Manny is not mad, so why are his Promoter and Trainer? Manny’s final words would be he answers to no one but God.
