Pacquiao to spar with foreign boxers

BAGUIO CITY — Pound-for-pound world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is set to spar Thursday with three foreign boxers.

Pacquiao continues with his high-altitude training in Baguio City for his June 9 fight with American boxer Timothy Bradley in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Filipino champ will spar with Russian boxers Ruslan Provodnikov, a 28-year-old junior-welterweight prospect, and Ruslan Nugayev.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach said Provodnikov is an ideal sparring partner for Pacquiao having a similar fighting style with Bradley whom the Filipino ring icon will be staking his 147-pound diadem.

Provodnikov, who stands similar to Pacquiao with a height of 5-foot-6, can provide the Filipino enough pointers on how to box with a fighter his size.

He will also spar with California-based boxer Francisco Santana.

Pacquiao concentrated on biometrics training and other lighter work Tuesday in time for the celebration of the birthday of his younger brother, Bobby, who is a former world intercontinental boxing champion.
