Wake up and smell the gamesmanship
Is Freddie Roach going to have to lace on the gloves again and get it on with Erik Morales?
Morales recently lit in to Manny Pacquiao’s esteemed trainer Freddie Roach, branding the tutor as someone never good enough to be in a big fight.
Morales, reported the Philippine Daily News, was reacting to comments made by Roach while the corner ace was in Manila getting Pac Man ready for Oscar Larios.
Roach, Morales believes, said the future Hall of Famer is a bad egg who has no love for Filipinos.
Roach did express a strong desire for Pacquiao to put the hammer to Morales in their third contest.
“I have never insulted the Filipino people in my life,” said Morales in the Daily News piece. “To the contrary, I believe that they are, as well as Mexican fans, very loyal to their boxers and have a well-grounded knowledge of boxing, and they support the sport like few others.”
Morales went on to say that he was sad that Roach put himself front and center in the matter, despite the fact that when an active fighter, he wasn’t able to contend for a major title.
Roach fought as a pro from 1978-1986 and walked away with a 39-13 mark. While an all-action TV fave, he never did make the step to contender status, while fighting featherweight up to lightweight.
Morales should get a clue and realize that the gentlemanly Roach is spouting stuff that will build interest and viewership. He’s putting money in your pocket, Morales! Wake up, and smell the gamesmanship…
