ENTERING second day of high altitude training, Manny Pacquiao starts to regain his speed and strength as preparation for June 9 gets into full throttle here in the Summer Capital.
Although showing some ring rust, the eight-time weight division champion still displayed his almost deadly form during their nine-round mitts training together with Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.
?It?s only his second day of training and he?s not yet that sharp,? said Roach, although Pacquiao still has the power in his punches while having the mitts training.
Training for the lawmaker from Sarangani formally opened Tuesday here and at least two sparring partners are being brought by the Hall of Fame trainer for their three-week stay before flying off to Los Angeles.
Roach will be introducing new techniques this round against the undefeated Timothy Bradley for the WBO welterweight crown at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
?There?s a lot of work to be done, we?ll try some new techniques and we?ll try to pick it up from there,? added Roach.
And his conditioning will be a big factor comes fight night with Pacquiao?s camp eyeing a tougher training regimen, which they had in 2009, that resulted in a 12-round annihilation of Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto.
Aside from his afternoon workout, Pacquiao also made an early morning run at the Sta. Lucia Golf course, where he also had a bible sharing with some of his entourage.
Pacquiao made shortwork of the earlier morning jog as he tries to regain his leg and his lungs in the next few days after almost three months of layoff.
Conditioning coach Alex Ariza said the three-week camp will be a repeat of their 2009 training as they try to improve Pacquiao?s winning streak to 16 since losing against Eric Morales in 2005.
