Today?s Los Angeles press conference designed to promote Rios?s April 14th,WBA lightweight championship fight with Cuban, Richard Abril almost turned into a bar room brawl not once but twice. Brandon Rios (29-0-1,22KO?S) who lost his title on the scale last December in New York will challenge WBA interim champion, Richard Abril (17-2-1,8KO?S) this Saturday, April 14th at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. HBO PPV will air the event live which will also include a broadcast from Mexico where Juan Manuel Marquez will battle Serhiy Fedchenko for interim WBO light welterweight title. Should Rios and Marquez win their respective bouts there is talk of their showdown at the Dallas Cowboy?s Stadium this July. Advertisement
Today?s altercation was somewhat expected, because a month ago in Miami during another press conference which was set up to promote a fight with missing in action Yuriorkis Gamboa, Richard Abril pushed Rios and challenged him to a fight.
?I did what I did at the Miami press conference to tell Rios he should be fighting me, not Gamboa,? explained twenty nine years old Abril:? Because I am the real champion. Rios is not as good as what people say.?Be careful what you wish for; you might just get it.
?I think I maintained myself better than I was going to do, because all week I wanted to destroy him. I wanted to hit him,? said Rios after he got pushed by Abril again during stare down in Los Angeles:?But you know what, they talked to me back there. They told me to keep it little more civil, don’t get too crazy, but I still wanted you know…. I am disappointed.? Brandon seemed genuinely disappointed and decided to take another shot at his opponent. Abril was on the stage being interviewed and took a wrong step and fell down. Someone said that Abril was trying to get out of the fight. Brandon cracked a joke and decided to advance to get to his nemesis.
Security and members of team Abril stepped in and prevented potentially explosive situation. Trusted Coach, Roberto Garcia had to get Brandon Rios out of the building in a hurry to avoid further complications. ?Come on man, ?exclaimed Rios:?When you going to push me and then try to say sorry. To me that’s bitch shit. I just want to punch him. I am ready.? Can Brandon wait till April 14th so he can get paid for doing it?
