MANILA, Philippines ? Juan Manuel Marquez is fighting Sergei Fedchenko of Ukraine on April 14 but the Mexican maestro insists the reason why he is returning to the ring is to secure a fourth fight with Manny Pacquiao.
?That?s the single factor is that I want the rematch (with Pacquiao). I want the rematch with Manny. The factor that returned me to this sport is that I want the rematch,? Marquez told Lem Satterfield in the on-line edition of The Ring magazine.
Marquez, who turns 39 in August, remains bitter to this day about what happened on the night in November last year when he stood his ground against Pacquiao.
?I felt very angry about the decision,? said Marquez, who lost a majority decision in the third fight after holding Pacquiao to a draw in May 2004 and losing a razor-thin split verdict in Marc 2008.
If Marquez survives Fedchenko, he will fight one more time on July 14 at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas and promoter Bob Arum is lining up the heavy-handed Brandon Rios with the winner facing Pacquiao in November provided of course that the Filipino gets past Tim Bradley on June 9.
But Marquez doesn?t appear to be pleased and only wants one guy to fight.
Marquez said that the possibility that he can get a fourth fight with Pacquiao is the reason why he has decided to reconsider his retirement.
Marquez truly believes he has Pacquiao?s number and that, if given the chance to square off with him for the fourth time, he will leave no doubt that he is the better man. ?Nick Giongco
