On Saturday night, unheralded lightweight contender Sergio Thompson introduced himself to the boxing masses in his hometown of Cancun, Quinta Roo, Mexico with a thrilling 2nd round TKO over heavily-favored former champion Jorge Linares. The victory cost Linares a July 7th rematch with Antonio DeMarco yet positioned Thompson for a better shot at a bright future in the sport.
And while there were mixed reviews about the way the fight was halted by a ringside physician who declared that a cut over Linares? left eye was too dangerous for him to continue on, there?s no denying the will and fortitude that Thompson showcased in just a matter of minutes.
