So I read where Ring magazine has bounced Manny Pacquiao from the number one spot to the number two spot on the pound for pound rankings list. Of course this wouldn’t have anything to do with politics in boxing now would it? Nooo of course it wouldn’t. Lord knows Floyd Mayweather would never work with Ring magazine owner Oscar De La Hoya in the future, now would he?
Of course you can read and almost feel my patronizing words above. This is one of the big reasons why Ring magazine has had a fall in sales over the years. Can you smell a conflict of interest here? Imagine if a major league baseball team bought the leagues umpires. Do you think the owner of that in particular team would get favors by the umpires that it OWNS?
Ring magazine is owned by De La Hoya. I would like to give Oscar the benefit of the doubt here, and ask that he explain his reasoning as to why his magazine dropped Pacquiao from the number 1 spot to the number 2 spot. What’s the science behind the decision?
Pacquiao has won world titles in 8 different divisions, and he’s wiped out legends in the process. Yes, Floyd is undefeated and he’s a great fighter, but do we really need to compare his level of opposition to Manny’s level of opposition?
Frankly I’m getting a little bit tired of Pacquiao getting spit on all the time. He’s done so much for this sport, and what does he get in return? He gets racial slurs thrown at him, he gets accused of taking steroids, all kinds of garbage.
Manny Pacquiao is the pound for pound king regardless of what any magazine may say. Until somebody can knock him off the hill, he’s number one. Somebody needs to knock Pacquiao off of the hill, and I’m not talking about with a pen. Somebody needs to do it with some boxing gloves on. Until that happens, Pacquiao is the king of the hill.
