Despite his many accomplishments inside and outside the sport of boxing, Manny Pacquiao has not lost his sense of humor.
Boxing’s Pound-for-Pound King demonstrated this in his newest commercial in the Philippines for an energy drink product by teasing in a press conference setting that he “is positive”, obviously poking fun at performance enhancing drugs allegations thrown at him initiated by the Floyd Mayweather, Jr. camp.
As it is, Pacquiao still has a pending defamation suit against Mayweather in the United States for his involvement in allegedly defaming Pacquiao’s reputation by linking him to performance enhancing drugs.
The issue, however, has opened the sport of boxing to the possibiity of a new era governed by more stringent drug testing led by former chairman of the Medical Advisory Board of the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), Dr. Margaret Goodman’s Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA), which will conduct random blood and urine testings for some of the sport’s major fights like the upcoming rematch between Amir Khan and Lamont Peterson.
In a related issue, Pacquiao swung back and addressed allegations by the Bureau of Internal Revenue in the Philippines, and said that the agency’s officials have wrongfully maligned him by painting him as a tax evader, which the Saragani Province congressman says, cost him at least four major endorsement deals in the US.
Some of Pacquiao’s major endorsers in the past year include Hewlett-Packard, Nike, and Cognac brand Hennessy.
