FILIPINO ring idol Manny Pacquiao holds the Philippine TV rights for his third encounter with legendary Mexican Erik “El Terrible” Morales, according to lawyer Nick Kahn, a member of the Pacman’s management team.
In an exclusive interview with Viva Sports/Standard Today, Kahn said Pacquiao “has control of the Philippine TV rights if a certain price is met. If he pays that price, he can do what he wants with the rights and it is up to Manny, who he wants to work with.”
Kahn declined to state the cost of the TV rights but described them as reasonable, saying it was to make sure that Top Rank promoter Bob Arum was adequately compensated and “is not giving it away free.”
Informed that Solar Sports had a deal with HBO to telecast their fights in the Philippines and had, in fact, telecast the first Morales fight as well as the rematch, Kahn said he had not heard of the agreement.
“Our understanding through Arum, who is the lead promoter with Manny Pacquiao Promotions, is that the Philippine rights will be Manny’s,” said Kahn.
