ALTHOUGH both co-main events of ?Pinoy Knockout 1?are projected to be exciting fights, one of the bouts in the stacked undercard could steal the show on Saturday night at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.
One of the fights that could probably bring the fans out of their seats is the 10-rounder between two unfamiliar names to the casual Cebuano boxing fans, Jerwin Ancajas and Mark Anthony Geraldo.
?This will be a competitive fight and the winner deserves to be a real champion,? SGG Promotions head Sammy Gello-ani told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Ancajas defends his World Boxing Organization (WBO) Youth Asia-Pacific super flyweight crown for the first time against Geraldo. Ancajas won the vacant strap last year with a 10th round unanimous decision victory over Rex Tito ?Singwangcha?.
A lot is at stake for both up-and-coming fighters in this fight. WBO No. 10 Ancajas wants to continue his unbeaten streak and climb up the 115-pound ladder of the WBO, wherein he is closing in on a world title shot.
?Yes he may (fight for a world title), but I will stretch him if possible with more competitive fights,? said Gello-ani.
As for Geraldo, this would serve as his biggest break, in which a win over a highly-rated fighter in Ancajas could land him a slot in the world ratings.
Ancajas, 20, is 13-0-1 with five knockouts. He has beaten the likes of rugged journeyman Rodel Quilaton and tough Jason Egera.
The 20-year-old Geraldo, in the meantime, is 22-4-3 with 10 knockouts. Even though he hasn?t won against noteworthy opponents, he has fought but lost to the likes of former world champion Oleydong Sithsamerchai, undefeated prospect Arthur Villanueva, Mhar Jhun Macahilig and Alvin Bais.
Geraldo has a granite chin and hasn?t been knocked out ever in his career.
The co-main events feature ex-world champion Marvin Sonsona and WBO No. 2 flyweight Froilan Saludar.
Sonsona locks horns with Dominican Republic?s Carlos Fulgencio, while Saludar defends his WBO Youth flyweight belt against Mexican Alejandro Morales.
Former amateur standout Adonis Cabalquinto faces Dan Nazareno for the RP light welterweight strap.
