Many scribes have been reporting that 8 division world champion Manny Pacquiao has recently made some dramatic personal changes in his life. Pacquiao in the past is known to have spent very large amounts of money gambling. He’s also known to have lavish spending habits, and recently he has been the subject of a tax investigation.
As in any political world, people do and say things in order to advance their careers. They don’t always say and do things for their constituents.
There’s no question that Pacquiao has done many good things for people in the past, and this should never be forgotten. With that said, one has to at least ask the question as to whether or not these big life changes are sincere, or if they are just a series of damage control moves in order to shore up his future Presidential run.
So I am told by some of my Filipino friends, it’s really no big deal to have a tax problem in the PI because it’s easily dealt with in the form a little pay off here and there. If that’s the case, I doubt Pacquiao sees any jail time. In fact, he may not even see any trouble out of this at all.
To me, the most important thing here is whether or not Manny is changing for the right reasons. If the Pacman made these changes because he realized that his way of life was on a bad course, then more power to him. If he made these changes only in order to damage control a future Presidential run, then that’s not so good.
There are those within the Pacman circle that are frustrated because of how things are dealt with. Pacquiao continually will turn a blind eye to the very people who are stealing from him. Pacquiao for unknown reasons keeps people in his circle that should have been bounced out of it a long time ago. For those in his circle that are true and just, this makes them pull their hair out.
