Pacman denies ignoring BIR inquiry on his tax

SARANGANI Rep. Manny ?Pacman? Pacquiao yesterday vehemently denied that he ignored the inquiries by the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) about his tax records which resulted to the filing of contempt charges against him.

Pacquiao, the country?s people?s champion, said his Manila-based counsel and accountant have been sent to concerned officials to respond to the questions regarding his tax records.

At the same time, Pacquiao appealed to BIR to give him enough time to adequately present his tax records.

The lawmaker said he will submit to the process and would not ignore any lawful order.

?I already sent my staff there. But if we found something where we went wrong, I hope they will give us enough time to correct it,? said Pacquiao.

The Sarangani congressman is facing contempt charges for failing to present correct statements of earnings and corresponding tax payments.

Last Wednesday, BIR Central Mindanao officials launched an investigation into Pacquiao?s income tax payments as part of a routine review for ?high-profile personalities? in the area.

He explained there is nothing extraordinary about the required examination since all taxpayers with businesses should be subject to a tax audit by the agency at least once. Ryan Ponce Pacpaco
