Sugar Shane Mosley has been on top before. His wins over Oscar De La Hoya will not go unforgotten. Although he had a couple losses to Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright, he was able to bounce back and rack up some good wins. Then came the undefeated Miguel Cotto and he put Shane back into reality. After that Shane gave us a spectacular win over Ricardo Mayorga in the 12th and final round. On that great surge he had a chance to face tough Antonio Margarito. Once again Shane defied the odds and stopped Antonio.
Last but not least, he had to face two of the greatest fighters out there in the welterweight division. Floyd Mayweather was his next opponent. Coming off two back to back KO wins, Shane was feeling confident and good. Floyd let him know that he’s in with one of the best technical fighters in the game. Although Shane Mosley got in a good shot that stunned Floyd for a second, Shane just couldn’t finish. Mayweather ended up walking him all the way for 12 rounds pitching a shutout almost. After that fight it seems like it took alot out of him. He fought Sergio Mora in what should have been an easy fight but ended up being a draw. This was not the same Shane Mosley we were used to seeing.
Last but not least he had to face the Tornado Manny Pacquiao. Shane was nothing but a shell now. He couldn’t counter, he couldn’t move, he was slow, he was breathing hard. On top of all that Manny Pacquiao dropped him in the 3rd round. It seems like Manny took it easy on him, but at the same time Shane didn’t want to get hit and made Pacquiao lunge the rest of the night. When he did hit Shane, it seemed like it drained his very soul. At one point during the replay you could hear Shane Mosley wanting to quit. His trainer would not allow him. Shane lost almost every round.
He took such a beating from Pacquiao that he seems Beyond Repair. Saul Alvarez just might be the one to end Shane’s Career. He has nothing left in the tank. Most boxing experts say that you have to outlast Shane for 3-4 rounds at the most and his wind is gone. Alvarez has been known to face the weakest boxers, but Shane Mosley will not even be a test to him. He’s shot, and he’s done. We want to remember Shane for the Legacy that he had. We don’t want him to be another Roy Jones Jr. Hopefully he will put boxing behind him after this last fight. 40 is not the new 20. Even Bernard Hopkins is showing his age now. You can only go so far with Mother Nature.
