Before I get started, I will not be doing any name dropping or website bashing within this article. I did however want to point out some of the obvious bias that I see with certain writers and with certain websites. If there’s one thing that I know for sure, I myself am about as far from perfect as far can get. With that said, I can at least say that with my articles I go after both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao when it’s needed. I also praise both fighters in my articles when it’s needed as well.
When Floyd Mayweather Jr donates money and when he feeds homeless people, I write about it. When Floyd Mayweather Jr gets arrested for beating up women, I write about it. When Floyd Mayweather Jr brilliantly carves an opponent to pieces in the ring, I write about it. There are some people out there who are both fans and competition that fail to see the difference between neutral writing and biased writing. I don’t know why or how that happens but it does.
Manny Pacquiao will go down as one of the greatest of all time. I have spent many hours writing articles about Manny and his brilliant career. I have flown to Los Angeles on several occasions and met with Manny in person. I have gotten to know some of his team members. I have shared meals with Manny Pacquiao in Los Angeles. I have covered his training camps from Wild Card Gym. I set it up so that Maria Aragon could sing the Philippine National Anthem at Manny Pacquiao’s fight. I spoke with Manny himself about it and he told me to send him a video or recording of Maria’s singing.
Why am I saying all of this you may ask? Because even with all of this exclusive access to Pacquiao, when the man screws up, I write about it. Unlike a few others in the writing world, I keep it real. This has made people on both sides unhappy with me. I was called a “hillbilly Mother Fucker” by Floyd Sr in 2011, hey, it just comes with this gig sometimes.
There are some out there that no matter what Manny or Floyd may have done, it doesn’t matter. If it was bad, they don’t cover it. If it was good, they cover it. There are some writers out there that even if they witnessed Manny Pacquiao trip an old lady down a flight of stairs, they would write that the old lady threw herself down the stairs. No way did Manny do it. The same applies for the biased Floyd writers. Floyd could walk into a bank with a gun and rob it. A biased Floyd writer would say it was some other dude wearing a Floyd Mayweather mask.
It is what it is. Writers have a moral obligation to write the truth.
