In a show called “Golpe-a-Golpe” (Blow-by-Blow) where Juan Manuel Marquez is one of the hosts, he said Manny Pacquiao is using “underestimation of opponent” as an excuse to explain his bad performance last Nov 12, 2011.
What I remember from watching HBO’s 24/7 episodes is that Pacquiao himself said he will not underestimate Juan Manuel Marquez. Freddie Roach would say that this was the best training camp ever, and Alex Ariza would say that he has never seen Pacquiao so focused, and that “not even God could help Marquez”.
Many excuses have come from the Pacquiao camp to explain his horrible performance in his last fight. Right after the fight, Pacquiao said he was having leg cramps, Roach said Pacquiao was over trained, and Ariza was saying that Pacquiao didn?t follow the training regimens. Others said that Pacquiao had an incident with Ariza, but now it appears that Pacquiao underestimated Marquez.
When will the excuses stop?
Why can?t Pacquiao and Team Pacquiao admit that he was outboxed by an older Marquez, who came up in weight to fight him? I certainly won?t forget the Pacquiao fans using the “foot stomping” trick, and “what was that yellow drink” as an excuse.
His upcoming fight against undefeated, and untested Tim Bradley is bogus. I can see why Pacquiao chose Bradley. Reason 1 is Bradley?s chin. He doesn?t have a chin. Reason 2 is that he doesn?t have KO power. He may be fast, but just look at his KO record, and the KOs he has are probably due to head butts. I predict a complete wipeout in Pacquiao?s favor. I don?t see anything that Bradley can bring to the table except for the head butts.
If Pacquiao wanted to prove that he had an off night, and like his excuse were leg cramps, overtraining, and just recently underestimation, he should be facing Marquez again for the 4th time. Is he waiting another 4 years to fight Marquez again? If the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight can?t happen, then the next logical choice should?ve been Marquez, other than that a 4th Marquez fight will bring in a lot of money. Marquez has the tactical and technical skills to make the 4th match a competitive fight for Pacquiao.
Pacquiao should really stop with the retirement comments. He has been saying he was going to retire for the past 4 years. If Pacquiao was really serious about retirement, he should announce it when he was in fact for sure he is going to retire. But for the time being Pacquiao has 3 more fights after Bradley, we?ll see?
On another note, Miguel Angel Cotto was interviewed and mentioned that he was getting a bad deal other than the catch weight from Top Rank for a Pacquiao-Cotto Rematch. The guarantee coming from Golden Boy and Mayweather was better than the guarantee offered by Top Rank. I?ll be looking forward to May 5th, and I?ll be rooting for Cotto. Good luck champ!!!
