Moments ago it was revealed that WBA/IBF junior welterweight champion Lamont Peterson has opted to push forward with a rematch with former champion Amir Khan, who he upset this past December, as opposed to lucrative two-fight deal from Top Rank that would have included an immediate shot at Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez.
Peterson defeated Khan is a terrific firefight on December 10th in his native Washington, D.C., overcoming an early knockdown before turning the tide of the fight with his pressure and body-punching. Khan was deducted two points for pushing along the way and lost his titles to Peterson by way of a hotly-contested split-decision.
Khan reaffirmed the Peterson rematch, showing his excitement on his personal Twitter page. The second encounter between the two looks to be taking place on May 19th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.
