The good news for you Democrats is that, after Obama gets re-elected in November (as he romps over Romney), we may have eight straight years of President Hillary Clinton. I can’t wait but I guess we’ll have to. In the meantime, I’ve got a feminist angle to how the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao super fight can finally come to fruition in the autumn. It’s past time for Bob Arum and his henchmen to step aside. Ditto for Al Haymon and his acolytes on the Mayweather side of the ledger. Let the two First Ladies, Floyd’s main squeeze Ms. Shantel Jackson, and Manny’s wife, Jinkee, take the reins. If Angela Merkel can run a big, poweful country like Germany and Hillary can be a superb Secretary of State, then certainly two business-minded women can sit down and equitably construct a deal for their leading men to fight it out for over $100 million. I don’t know if Shantel handles any of Floyd’s business interests. If she does, it hasn’t been shouted from the rooftop of the Big Boy Mansion in Las Vegas. I do know that Jinkee, having seen her shops in General Santos City and having interviewed her a few times, knows that debit goes on the left side, credit on the right. I don’t see either of these two very attractive and intelligent women being restricted to the homemaker role. Why not let Jinkee and Shantel take a crack at putting together a deal acceptable to their love interests? So far, the men involved have accomplished nothing on this front. I mean, could a sitdown between Ms. Jackson and Mrs. Pacquiao be more fruitless or more of a timewaster? The Alpha Males involved don’t even speak to each other. They alternatively whine and bark through the media which isn’t bringing the fight the world demands any closer to becoming a realit. Let the ladies talk. Maybe they could broker the deal. Perhaps they both get it, understand that the money must be split down the middle, even steven at 50-50. The Philippines has had women presidents, the United States will get there in a few years. If women can be the leaders of such nations, are you going to tell me they can’t put together a boxing match much of the world is slobbering over? Remember the 1970s era slogan of women’s libreration, the one that said a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle. I hope Shantel and Jinkee start peddling. This idea is, I must admit, brilliant. But I prefer to let the ladies take the credit. If they convince Floyd and Manny to fight, then we won’t have to spend time dreaming up a nickname for the so called Dream Fight. We can just call it “Mayweather-Pacquiao, the Honey Do Fight.” The guys have been fumbling the ball long enough. Give the women their chance. Like I said, they can’t do worse.
