When Manny Pacquiao said that he will fight anybody, he meant it. The fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather once again has been kicked further down the road. It was announced today that Floyd Mayweather Jr and Miguel Cotto will fight on May 5th. The fans around the world were teased for weeks and weeks that perhaps the big fight would finally take place.
A few weeks ago Floyd Mayweather went on Twitter and he called out Pacquiao as clear as day. So let me ask this. Bob Arum is Pacquiao’s promoter, and not the other way around, right? It’s Bob Arum’s job to make fights happen. It’s not Manny Pacquiao’s job. Manny will fight a hungry grizzly bear if need be.
I spoke with my inside source on Team Pacquiao today and he confirmed that Manny in fact did give the order to make the Mayweather fight happen. This isn’t really Floyd’s fault either. Floyd and Manny both want to get paid for this fight. They don’t pay themselves, they get paid by promoters or in this case a promoter, and investors.
It’s a fact that Manny gave the order to make the fight happen and it’s a fact that Floyd stepped up and called out Pacquiao. The other fact is, the promoter dropped the ball and for reasons not all entirely known by me, the fight isn’t happening. Greed obviously had a play in all of this.
Now we get Mayweather Vs. an older Miguel Cotto. I am a big Miguel Cotto fan, and I am happy that he gets a nice payday. With that said, that’s not the fight that the fans wanted to see.
So who is next for Pacquiao? Hmmmmmmm let me guess, Timothy Bradley? Didn’t I predict this months and months ago? I’m still sticking to it. I believe Bradley is next, and perhaps if Lamont Peterson is still in the mix, he may be next after Bradley.
The way things have turned out, there’s really only one fight that I can think of that would rival the PPV’s that a Pacquiao Vs. Mayweather would get. Bob Arum Vs. Al Haymon.
