While I am curious to see what Floyd will say to this offer, I still think that Arum is missing the point. Floyd wants a lot more than $45 million, and not only that, he wants it all under his umbrella of rules. What Arum is failing to understand, is that he is not talking to a fighter, but a smart promoter instead. Mayweather Jr. knows the financial part of boxing, and is capable of making absurd demands that are actually realistic at the same time.
Arum is trying to save face by throwing Floyd curveballs like this. Maybe Arum thinks: ?If I offer Floyd anything more than what Manny would get, Floyd would bite and go for it, thinking that he has come out a financial winner.?
Maybe Arum is right, maybe Floyd will go for it. And maybe he will piss of Mayweather Jr. with his condescending games, and dig a much deeper hole for him to climb out of.
In the end, when or if this drama starts to cause serious decline in public interest, both fighters stand to lose millions of dollars and much more. Both Manny and Floyd know this, as well as their respective teams. Time to act is now, and if Bob keeps acting like a roadblock to this historic event, I am more than confident he will lose Pacquiao as a client.
