Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer is on the warpath trying to discredit Bob Arum and Manny Pacquiao. Last week Schaefer told Boxingscene.com?s Rich Reeno the following statements:
Schaefer: ?I don?t know how many times I have to repeat that this fight (Pacquiao vs. Mayweather) is not going to happen. How stupid are people to think that Arum wants to do this fight. He doesn?t want to do this fight. He has no intention of doing this fight.?
This is bold faced deception by Schaefer. Arum just offered Floyd $45 million to make the fight, that?s $5 million more generous than Floyd reasonbably offered Pacquiao. Yet Floyd answers with mere silence. Also, Schaefer seems to have forgotten that it was Mayweather who fake retired to duck Manny when Arum was pushing to make the fight a year ago, with Floyd claiming that he had lost the urge to fight and that he wanted to spend more time with his family and spend more time helping kids at his gym. Then before that Mayweather ducked Pacquiao and Arum?s pressure to make a deal by insisting on all the drug testing and then changing the cutoff dates when his bluffs were called. Nice try Richard.
Schaefer: ?Floyd is his own boss, he will decide to do what he wants to do.?
It?s obvious to all who can see through Schaefer?s lying that Floyd has already made up his mind. Al Haymon?s associate George Peterson told me repeatedly in Dec. 2009 that Pacquiao-Mayweather will never happen because some fights aren?t meant to be made. Of course, Schaefer has called Al Haymon the smartest man in boxing. Hey Richard, can you tell us just what the hell Haymon has done in boxing to warrant being called so smart, besides manipulate HBO and Showtime to give his B and C level fighters an unfairly disproportionate amount of TV dates? And Richard, can you please tell us how many A level stars who can sell out football stadiums, Haymon and yourself have developed with all the HBO and Showtime dates? Thank you.
Schaefer: ?Floyd Mayweather is never going to run out of options and alternatives because frankly he can fight Joe Shmo and it?s going to be a big event.?
This is exactly what Haymon, Mayweather and Schaefer want to do. They want to find a Joe Shmo and serve him up as an easy set up for Floyd, while marketing and promoting it as a big event. Just like they tried to do with the Ortiz fight, which bombed at the live gate and the pay per view numbers underperformed to the point that HBO never officially certified those fairy tale numbers that were belatedly given out to save face.
Schaefer: ?The fact is when Floyd Mayweather fights it?s the Super Bowl of boxing and every year it?s the most anticpated event.?
False. No NFL stadium wants Floyd and again, the live gate and PPV numbers bombed last time vs. Ortiz. Mayweather is a manufactured, protected, choreographed phony wanna-be star, who has zero major endorsements in America, two failed businesses (soft drink and record label) and no mainstream media attention from outlets like 60 Minutes, Jimmy Kimmel. In fact the last time Mayweather appeared in public at the Rigondeaux-Ramos fight in his own hometown in Las Vegas, he was roundly booed by the fans in attendance. Pacquiao on the other hand, has many major endorsement deals and also successful business enterprises and TV shows. Also, Mayweather is a boring performer and a heel character that as soon as he loses, his minimal fanbase will abandon him and no longer support him. On the otherhand, Pacquiao is a beloved global icon who, even if he were to lose, his fan base will continue to support him and his comeback. So Arum can afford for Manny to lose but Schaefer and Haymon know when Floyd loses, they are finished and their Humpty Dumptyweather will never ever be reassembled into a lucrative brand name.
Schaefer: ?He?s the top dog, he?s the top guy who?s going to say what he wants and what he has to do. And if somebody says no then he checks them off the list and moves on to the next one and that?s what hapens.?
ESPN personalities Mike Wilbon and Skip Bayless don?t call Floyd ?top dog? they call him a coward. Yes Floyd does and says what he wants, and he ducks and dodges who he wants by any means or lies necessary, and he chooses to fight only opponents he knows he will beat. Schaefer and Haymon approve of Floyd?s ducking and dodging and handpicking because they must protect their one and only ?star? otherwise Haymon and Golden Boy will lose all power and leverage in the sport when Mayweather gets KOed by Pacquiao.
Hey Richard, last year you claimed it wasn?t the time yet to make Pacquiao vs. Mayweather. Can you tell us when you think it will be the right time? Just when would you like to make the fight and when will Floyd like to fight Manny? Arum is and has been trying to make the fight for May, June or even November. What positive actions are you taking to make the fight, outside of telling boxing fans that the fight ?is not going to happen??
Make it happen Richard, you and your pal Haymon, the smartest man in boxing, should be able to find a way to make it happen right? Unless of course, you know it?s impossible to persuade your little ?spoiled brat? Floyd (Oscar De La Hoya called Floyd a ?spoiled brat?) to overcome his extreme cowardice of the Asian dynamo Manny Pacquiao.
