Next Saturday on HBO the biggest fight of Julio Cesar Chavez JR awaits as he fights Marco Antonio Rubio in a middleweight showdown for his WBC Title. Chavez has the famous last name which is why he is well known for virtually fighting know one. Whether you like him or not he is a draw and anyone that can draw fans in the sport of boxing nowadays is a good thing. Especially when you can bring in the Spanish market like Chavez and Canelo can. The fight against Rubio next Saturday is the most important fight of his career because he is facing a genuine top ten fighter who has power in the event he can defeat him a big money fight awaits Chavez possibly against Cotto or Canelo or even less likely but still a possibility Sergio Martinez. We preview the strengths and weaknesses of Chavez jr and Rubio.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.:
Strengths: Despite his height he fights inside and is very good inside game throwing combinations very well. He is aggressive and has improved defence since working with Freddie Roach. He has also improved his strength and conditioning significantly in his last fight against Manfredo.
Weaknesses: He does not fight on the outside much and is not a technically sound fighter. He does not possess power as a middleweight so his work ethic will have to make up for it.
Marco Antonio Rubio:
Strengths: His biggest strength is his power and has shown throughout his career that his power can get him out of trouble as evidence suggests in his fight against David Lemieux where he exhibited beautiful strategy by letting Lemieux punch himself out.
Weakness: His defence can be cause for concern as seen in his fight some years back against Koffi Jantuah. He tends to get carried away with trying to land a big punch and that?s what gets him in trouble.
Prediction: If Chavez can showcase significant improvement in his boxing that alone can defeat Rubio who is primarily a brawler I can see Chavez winning a decision. But if Rubio can walk through Chavez punches without blinking Chavez could be in trouble. My prediction is a surprising late round stoppage victory for Chavez Jr.
