Robert Garcia, Nonito Donaire Jr.?s trainer, said it would be a waste of time for his ward to fight Guillermo Rigondeaux, the newly-crowned World Boxing Association 122-pound champion. Donaire is currently training for his upcoming fight against Puerto Rican Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. on February 4, for the vacant World Boxing Organization super bantamweight belt
?I don?t even think he?s (Rigondeaux) going to be in the picture. I?m not saying he?s not a big name. He?s a world champion now, but there are more deserving boxers available,? Garcia told boxingscene.com writer Ryan Maquinana.
Garcia believes that the 28-year-old Donaire (26-1 win-loss card with 18 knockouts) deserves to fight better boxers like Jorge Arce, Yuriorkis Gamboa or Juan Manuel Lopez when he climbs up to the featherweight division.
?Nonito has the speed, power and height. He?s very talented and got everything to be in the featherweight. He?s probably the taller than most featherweight fighters around. Maybe against Arce after the fight with Vasquez,? Garcia added.
Garcia made a prediction on how would Donaire take on the latter, ?Vasquez is good, but Donaire?s performance is going to be spectacular,? he said.
